John Ritter was an American actor born in Burbank, California on September 17th, 1948. He is best known for his comedy work and was the leading man on two popular sitcoms. From 1976 to 1984, John played Jack Tripper on Three's Company. From 2002 to 2003, he played Paul Hennessy on 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter.
John's first work in the horror genre however was much earlier. One of the earliest roles of his career came in 1972 when he played a character named Rider in the Robert Mulligan film The Other. It was the fourth movie he ever appeared in. In 1990, John played the older version of Ben Hanscomb in the telemovie adaptation of Stephen King's It. In 1997, he played mad scientist-turned-robot Ted Buchanan in the season two episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer appropriately titled "Ted". In 1998, Ritter took on an even more serious role as hardass police chief Warren Kincaid in Bride of Chucky where he became yet one more statistic in the ever-growing list of victims murdered by the killer doll. In 2000, John Ritter appeared in the "Make Me An Offer" segment of the anthology film Terror Tract.
Ritter passed away due to complications from an unexpected heart attack in Burbank on September 11th, 2003.
