Jed Potter is a minor character from the FX Network television series American Horror Story. Played by actor Devon Graye, he appeared in the season two episode of the miniseries American Horror Story: Asylum entitled "Tricks and Treats".
Jed Potter was a young man and the son of farmers Mister Potter and his wife Cynthia. In 1964, Mister Potter went out to his barn where he found Jed naked and disembowling one of his cows. The boy turned around with a maniacal look upon his face and Potter could see that he had eaten the animal's heart.
The Potters brought Jed to Briarcliff Manor - a mental asylum that was once a hospital specializing in tuberculosis. One of the administrators of Briarcliff, Sister Jude Martin, assured the Potters that they would treat their son and resolve his issues.
This proved to be more difficult than expected when it became clear to them that Jed Potter was possessed by a demon. Sister Jude brought in the Monsignor of the church, Timothy Howard as well as an older priest named Father Malachi to perform the Rites of Exorcism. Monsignor Howard used all of the traditional methods of exorcism including bearing the crucifix and annointing the afflicted with holy water. Ultimately, Jed Potter's physical form could not withstand the pressure of possession and he died of a heart attack. Sister Jude had the unfortunate duty of informing his parents of his parents. A state-appointed psychiatrist named Doctor Oliver Thredson was disturbed that Sister Jude attributed Jed's death to natural causes.
Notes & Trivia Edit

- The demon that possesses Jed Potter seems to have inherent knowledge of the people surrounding him. He demonstrates insight into Sister Jude's capabilities and makes the veiled suggestion that Oliver Thredson left him as a child.
- Actor Devon Graye is also known for playing the role of teenage Dexter Morgan in flashback scenes from everyone's favorite serial killer TV show, Dexter.
