Jack the Ripper is a British television miniseries that aired on October 11th and October 18th, 1988 on CBS. It was directed by David Wickes and written by Wickes and Derek Marlowe. It was produced by Euston Films, Lorimar Telepictures, Thames and the BBC.
The film is a fictionalized account of a series of actual murders that took place in the Whitechapel district of London, England in the Autumn of 1888. The film stars Michael Caine as Scotland Yard police inspector Frederick Abberline, who is charged with investigating the gruesome murders of several prostitutes, which have been attributed to an unidentified killer known as Jack the Ripper. Other stars in the film include Armand Assante as Richard Mansfield, Ray McAnally as Sir William Gull, Lewis Collins as Sergeant George Godley, and Ken Bones as Robert James Lees. Filling out the roles of our Ripper victims are Susan George as Catherine Eddowes, Lysette Anthony as Mary Jane Kelly, Deirdre Costello as Annie Chapman, and Angela Crow as Elizabeth Stride.
