Jaime Augusto Richards, III is an American film and television actor born in Washington, D.C. on August 28th, 1973. He is best known for playing vampire hunter Charles Gunn on the WB Network television series Angel. J. August originally came into the series as an antagonist and was introduced in the season one episode "War Zone". By season two, J. August Richards was now an ally of Angel and the team at Angel Investigations and was a credited recurring character throughout the remainder of the show. In total, J. August Richards appeared in 91 episodes of the series.

- J. August Richards' first professional television work was playing a character named Roy in the "Out of Brooklyn" episode of The Cosby Show. He was credited under the name Jamie Richards for this appearance.
- J. August Richards performed the Queen song "We are the Champions" in the season two episode "Redefinition".
- In addition to Angel, J. August Richards has also made appearances in a number of science fiction programs. His first sci-fi work was "The River of Stars" episode of Space: Above and Beyond. He played a character named Damon in the "Just Say Yes" episode of Sliders. He was John Shaffner in "The Starzl Mutation" of The 4400 starring Dracula actor Billy Campbell. In 2011 he played Zach Adanto in the "Past Imperfect" episode of Warehouse 13.
- By the end of Angel, J. August's character was a full member of the demonic law firm Wolfram & Hart. Ironically, this would not be the last time that Richards would play the role of a legal eagle. He played district attorney Marcus McGrath in the TNT drama Raising the Bar from 2008 to 2009. In 2010, he played another district attorney, ADA Bracken in two episodes of The Defenders.
