The Island of Lost Souls is an independent American science fiction and horror film involving themes of scientific experimentation, a mad scientist and the evolution of man beasts. It is an adaptation of the 1896 novel The Island of Doctor Moreau by author H.G. Wells. It is also a remake of the 1932 film Island of Lost Souls. This version of the tale was directed by Don Taylor with a script written by Al Ramrus and John Herman Shaner. It was produced by American International Pictures and premiered in the United States on July 13th, 1977. The film stars Burt Lancaster in the role of evil genius Doctor Paul Moreau, with Michael York taking on the role of the movie's protagonist, Andrew Braddock. Barbara Carrera serves as the femme fatale of the movie, Maria, with Nigel Davenport as Montgomery, and Richard Basehart as the Sayer of the Law. Actor Nick Cravat also patters around as the misanthrope servant, M'Ling.
