Notes & Trivia[]

  • Interview with the Vampire is part of the "Immortal Universe" licensing brand, which comprises Anne Rice's adapted works. This series is the first project licensed under this brand. It is followed by the Mayfair Witches television series, which began airing in January, 2023.
  • Although the overall premise of the television series is similar to that of the original novel, there are also drastic changes made between the two, most of which involve the character of Louis de Pointe du Lac. In the novel, Louis was a white plantation owner from the 1700s. On the series, he is a black night club owner from the 1910s.
  • This is the second live-action adaptation of Anne Rice's novel. The first was the Interview With the Vampire feature film from 1994, which was directed by Neil Jordan. This film provided a more faithful, albeit truncated version of the original story and starred Brad Pitt as Louis de Pointe du Lac, Tom Cruise as Lestat de Lioncourt, and Kirsten Dunst as Claudia. A sequel film, Queen of the Damned was released in 2002 by director Michael Rymer.
  • Principal photography for the first season began in late 2021, running from December to April, 2022 in New Orleans. Production designer Mara LePere-Schloop recreated the Storyville district by building forty period building facades for the show's Iberville and Liberty Street on a backlot at The Ranch Studios in Chalmette from October, 2021 to January, 2022.
  • Author Anne Rice passed away on December 11th, 2021 at the age of 80. Prior to her death, she had actively worked to bring her "Immortal Universe" to life, and as such, is posthumously credited as an executive producer on the series.
  • Anne Rice's son, Christopher Rice, serves as an executive producer on the series.
  • Music for the series was composed by Daniel Hart.
