Infested is a French feature film of the predatory animal subgenre of horror with an emphasis on killer spiders. It was directed by Sébastien Vaniček with a scenario and dialogue written by Sébastien Vaniček and Florent Bernard based on an original idea by Vaniček. It was produced by My Box Films in partnership with Tandem Films with the participation of Netflix and France Télévisions with the support of Impact Film in association with Cinécap 6, Cinéaxe 5, Cofimage 34, Indéfilms 12 and SG Image 2022. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival in Italy on September 8th, 2023. It was then screened at Fantasy Filmfest in Germany on September 13th, 2023. It was first viewed in France at its official premiere at the L'Etrange Festival. Its first U.S. screening was the Chicago International Film Festival on October 21st, 2023. Its first theatrical release in France was on December 27th, 2023.

Plot[]

Kaleb is a young man from France who has a lifelong hobby of collecting strange animals such as scorpions, snakes and spiders. After purchasing a dangerous breed of desert spider at a local shop, Kaleb brings it back to the small apartment he lives in with his sister Manon. The spider escapes and gives birth to offspring, who develop under the "Darwin" principal of achieving a size ten times that of its parent. The spiders spread throughout the complex affecting many residents with their poisonous bite. Kaleb and Manon connect with Lila and Kaleb's childhood friends Mathys and Jordy and attempt to escape the apartment complex, but the local SWAT team, fearing a contagion, has the building on lockdown, keeping everyone quarantined. Now Kaleb, Manon, Lily, Mathys and Jordy must not only fight up against hordes of poisonous spiders, but law enforcement as well.
