House of the Dead is an American independent horror film of the zombie apocalypse genre. It is the first installment in a series based on the popular Sega arcade game House of the Dead. A sequel, House of the Dead II was released in 2005. The movie was directed by Uwe Boll and written by Dan Bates and Dave Parker based on a story treatment developed by Mark A. Altman (who also co-produced the film). It was first screened at the San Francisco Independent Film Festival on February 15th, 2003. It was released theatrically on October 10th, 2003. The movie stars Jonathan Cherry as Rudy, Tyron Leitso as Simon, Clint Howard as Salish, Ona Grauer as Alicia, Ellie Cornell as Jordan Casper, Enuka Clavell as Liberty, Sonja Salomaa as Cynthia, Michael Eklund as Hugh, David Palffy as Castillo and Jürgen Prochnow as Kirk. The premise of the film involves a group of college students who learn about a rave taking place on a nearby island. After gathering together some friends, the group hires a boat to take them to the island only to find that it has naturally been overrun with flesh-eating and surprisingly mobile zombies.

  • House of the Dead was released on DVD in Region 1 format by Lions Gate Entertainment on January 27th, 2004.
