House is a 1986 horror-comedy directed by Steve Miner. Produced by New World Pictures and based on a story by Fred Dekker and Ethan Wiley, it was released theatrically in the United States on February 28th. House spawned two sequels beginning with House II: The Second Story. A 1989 film known as The Horror Show was released and was also marketed under the title House 3. However it is not part of the House series franchise. The next canonical sequel was the 1992 direct-to-video film House IV. The plot of House centers around Roger Cobb (William Katt), a Vietnam veteran and horror novel author who inherits a dilapidated old house from his late grandmother. While attempting to complete his work, as well as locate his missing son Jimmy, Roger learns that there is more to this house than meets the eye. In addition to ghosts and strange, supernatural phenomena, Roger must also come face to face with the rotting zombie of a soldier known as "Big Ben".
