A Hillbilly is a character archetype referring to a resident of the United States, who generally originates from a rural mountainous area, or perhaps even from the southeastern region of the country. The term is often synonymous with redneck and carries with it certain cultural stereotypes. Hillbillies are often portrayed as unkempt and uneducated, generally with a predilection towards the outdoors and activities such as hunting, fishing, farming and consuming alcohol. The worst stereotypes of a hillbilly may even go so far as to portray them as having poor hygiene, and maintaining incestuous relationships with family members.
