High Tension, alternatively known as Haute tension, is a French independent horror film of the psycho-thriller subgenre. It was directed, co-written and co-produced by Alexandre Aja and released through his production company Alexandre Films in 2003. The film premiered in France on June 18th and then in Canada on September 7th, 2003 at the Toronto International Film Festival. It was first screened in the United States at the Sundance Film Festival on January 17th, 2004 and was released to limited theatrical screening in the US on June 10th, 2005. The film follows the torment of two young French college students, Marie and Alexia, who are stranded at a farmhouse late at night while a sadistic killer stalks them throughout the isolated countryside.
