"It's all a puzzle, isn't it, Joseph? Like a game of chess, perhaps. The pieces move, apparently aimlessly, but always towards one single objective: to kill the king. But who is the king in this game, Joseph? That is the question you must ask yourself."

Hellraiser: Inferno is a 2000 horror film directed by Scott Derrickson. It is the fifth installment in the Hellraiser franchise and was released direct-to-video on October 3rd, 2000. Unlike the previous films in the series, which focused on intense visuals and high levels of gore, Hellraiser: Inferno embodies the theme and atmosphere of a psychological thriller where the violence is more suggestive than explicit.

The premise of the film centers around homicide detective Joseph Thorne – a man who is gifted with a knack for solving puzzles. His partner Tony Nenonen and he begin investigating a string of brutal murders, which leads Joseph to the greatest enigma of his career – the Lemarchand puzzle box. While exploring the mysteries of the box, Joseph Thorne learns about an enigmatic figure known only as the Engineer. The more he labors to solve the mystery of the Engineer, the more he finds himself drawn into the world of the Cenobites.
