Helen Spalding was the wife of scientist Doctor Charles Spalding. An unfaithful woman, Helen had been carrying on an affair with Charles' colleague, Doctor James Sevard. The two conspired to murder Doctor Spalding and steal his research with the intent of gaining fame and fortune from his work. Charles' loyal assistant, Desmond, discovered their treachery and informed Doctor Spalding of what the two had planned. Spalding's research involved the reanimation of dead tissue and he decided to use it on himself. After he "died", Spalding returned from the dead as a zombie, but with full control over his mental faculties. He returned to his castle laboratory and took his revenge upon Doctor Sevard and Helen, strangling both of them to death.
