Notes & Trivia[]

  • Although Hans Conried provided the voice for the Grinch in Halloween Is Grinch Night, it is another horror film icon who first lent his talent to the character in the Dr Seuss special of 1966 special, How the Grinch Stole Christmas. That actor was Boris Karloff, who worked on Frankenstein Monster.
  • Hans Conried also played a character named Doctor Van Helsing on the "Substitute Wife" episode of the original Fantasy Island, though the character has no connection to the more infamous Van Helsing of Dracula fame.
  • Also performed in the long-running Cole Porter Broadway musical "Can-Can" for more than a year.
  • Although he was replaced by Taylor Holmes for the voice role of King Stefan in another Disney animated film of 1959, Sleeping Beauty, Conried remained a live model reference for Stefan and the uncredited voice for Duke, though it is still unknown who voiced him, as a result of his own replacement by Holmes as Stefan.
