Sam Loomis was a psychiatrist at Smith's Grove Sanitarium. In 1963, he met a young patient named Michael Myers who was admitted after stabbing his older sister to death on Halloween night. Loomis observed Michael for the next fifteen years, ultimately coming to the conclusion, that there was no redemption for the child and that he was "The Devil". In 1978, Myers broke out of Smith's Grove and returned to his home town of Haddonfield, Illinois. Loomis pursued him and prevented him from murdering teenager Laurie Strode. The following night, he tracked him to Haddonfield Memorial Hospital where he once again saved Laurie from Michael's rampage. Loomis set off an explosion that gave him severe burns across his face and arm. He returned a few years later to face off with Michael two more times. This time he prevented him from killing Michael's niece Jamie Lloyd. In 1995, Sam had his final encounter with Michael Myers. He learned that Michael was being used as a pawn by the Cult of Thorn and fought with him in the bowels of Smith's Grove Sanitarium. Michael got the upper hand and destroyed his nemesis once and for all.
