The Grendel is the name given to a fictional space vessel featured in the Friday the 13th film series. It served as the primary setting of the 2002 feature film Jason X. The Grendel was a bulky space-faring ship that housed medical and scientific research accommodations and personnel, as well as an armed military contingent for security. The ship was piloted by Lou Goddard with Trevor "Crutch" Crutchfield as chief engineer. Its complement included a shuttlecraft, which was used for planetary excursions and for personnel transport.
In the year 2455, The Grendel hosted a field trip of sorts of medical students led by Professor Braithwaite Lowe. The group journeyed to the desolated planet Earth, where they recovered the cryogenically preserved bodies of scientist Rowan LaFontaine and mass murderer Jason Voorhees, who had been kept in suspended animation since the early 21st century. Jason Voorhees revived and underwent a nanotech upgrade, which made him even deadlier than before. He went on a murderous spree across the ship, which ultimately resulted in the Grendel 's destruction.
