Grandpa is a fictional vampire and one of the central characters featured on the comedy television program The Munsters, which ran from 1964 to 1966. Grandpa was the eldest member of the Munster family, and was always trying to concoct inventive new ways of improving his family's quality of life.

Biography[]

Though now known affectionately as "Grandpa", this individual is actually the infamous Count Dracula. Grandpa was born several hundred years ago in Transylvania. In the mid 20th, century, he came to the United States with his daughter Lily and took up residence at 1313 Mockingbird Lane in Mockingbird Heights. More often than not, Grandpa preferred the privacy of his laboratory, which existed in a secret crypt beneath the living room of the Munsters' home. The laboratory could be accessed by way of a special hatch panel located beneath a throw rug. There was no triggering mechanism to open the hatch, and Grandpa usually just flicked his wrist and the door would magically open.

Grandpa's experiments always involved the most bizarre ingredients and did not always yield the desired results. When he attempted to make a masquerade costume for himself, he failed horribly and was forced to attend a party dressed as Napoleon Bonaparte. [3] In another instance, he combined nightingale, a woman's tears and pieces from a Frank Sinatra album to create a love potion. The potion actually worked, but it was unfortunately imbibed by the wrong people. [4] Another of his wacky experiments involved an enlarging machine. This device yielded minimal success, but it did succeed in causing a city-wide blackout. At one point it malfunctioned, and actually shrunk Grandpa's grandson, Eddie, but Grandpa was able to reverse the effect before his parents found out. [5]
