Carrie - pig's blood

Sissy Spacek in Carrie (1976).

Gore is an industry phrase which relates to scenes of explicit and graphic violence. Horror movies and television shows, and even some video games utilize gore to add to the overall effectiveness of a scene, oftentimes deliberately trying to create a sense of discomfort for the viewer. In many cases, extreme gore is often considered gratuitous. Gore almost always involves the shedding of blood to some extent or another, which accounts for injuries resulting from bladed devices such as knives, machetes, spears, power tools, and even farming equipment, to injuries caused by firearms, including large caliber gunshot wounds, characters being shot in the head, etc. Another common example of gore is in the form of severed limbs, which includes not only arms and legs, but also heads, fingers, ears, tongues, and yes... even faces.
