Glenn Rinker was an actual television news broadcaster. He was born in Lehigh County Pennsylvania on October 10th, 1933. He passed away in Orlando, Florida on February 17th, 1993 at the age of 59.
Fictional biography[]
Glenn Rinker was a broadcast journalist for Channel 10 WPLG television station, which was based out of Miami. In 1980, he reported about a massive snowstorm that was affecting the midwest, and blowing through the Colorado mountains. From his hotel room, Dick Hallorann watched Rinker's report, and grew concerned because he knew about a family that was maintaining the Overlook Hotel near Sidewinder that would now be stormed in.
