Georges Méliès is quite possibly the very first horror film director. He was born in Paris, France on December 8th, 1861 and died in Paris on January 21st, 1938 at the age of 76. He directed, produced and starred in the 1896 2 minute short, Le Manoir du diable. In 1899, he directed and produced Cléopâtre, which featured a mummy.
