"Subject: Three Thirteen"

"Subject: Fearsome" is the pilot episode of the supernaturally-themed television series FreakyLinks. It was directed by Todd Holland and written by series creators Ricardo Festiva and Gregg Hale. It first aired on the Fox Network on Friday, October 6th, 2000. This episode introduces the character of Derek Barnes, a young man who inherited his twin brother Adam's website, OccultResearch.com following his apparent suicide three years prior. Derek renames the site FreakyLinks.com and uses it to investigate strange cases of the paranormal. Through his efforts however, he discovers that Adam is still alive and seeks the aid of his brother's ex-fiancée, Chloe Tanner, to help his uncover the truth. Assisting them are Derek's fellow website owners Jason Tatum and Lan Williams.

  • Premiere episode of the series.
  • Production code number: 1AEF79.
  • Original working titles for the series included Fearsum and FreakyLinks.com. Fearsum", a play on the word fearsome, became the title for this episode.
  • Each of the episode titles are prefixed with the word "Subject". The implication is that they are subject lines as one would find on an email.
  • The opening and closing theme song to this episode is "Nobody's Real" by the heavy metal band Powerman 5000. Subsequent episodes adopt original music for the series rather than continue to pay out royalties to Powerman 5000.
  • There are two scenes from this episode that were left out in the original broadcast, but re-inserted when the series aired in syndication.
  • Scotch Ellis Loring, who plays Fire Chief Holbein in this episode, is the companion of director Todd Holland.
