FleshEater is an American indepdendent horror film of the zombie apocalypse sub-genre. Produced strictly for the direct-to-video market, it was released on home video on August 17th, 1988. Developed in the same vein as other popular zombie franchises such as Night of the Living Dead and Return of the Living Dead, FleshEater was directed, produced and starred Bill Hinzman, the same man who earned himself a small place in horror film history playing the role of Cemetery zombie in George Romero's original 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead. The plot of the movie is typical of most zombie fare in where a zombie, or flesheater, rises from the grave and begins creating more zombies, which in turn terrorize a group of youths attending a hayride on Halloween night.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Alternatively known as Revenge of the Living Dead and Zombie Nosh.
  • Loosely based on the zombie character that Bill Hinzman played in the original Night of the Living Ded. However, they are not the same character as Hinzman's original zombie was burned on a pyre at the end of Night of the Living Dead.
  • During the cardiectomy scene, Bill Hinzman bites into an actual pig's heart. Originally, a plastic prop was to be used, but when something went wrong with the prop, the crew replaced with a pig's heart. No one informed Hinzman of the change. [1]
  • Composer Paul McCollough also wrote and performed the song "Come to Me" used in the film.
