Five Nights at Freddy's is an American feature film of the supernatural and psychological thriller subgenres of horror, which also dips a furry toe into the "killer toys" subgenre. It is base on the video game series of the same name, which was created by Scott Cawthon and first released on PlayStation, Nintendo, Xbox and Oculus platforms on August 8th, 2014. The movie adaptation was directed by Emma Tammi with a screenplay by franchise creator Scott Cawthon, as well as Emma Tammi, Seth Cuddeback, Chris Lee Hill, and Tyler MacIntyre. It was produced by Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions in association with Scott Cawthon Productions and released theatrically in the United Kingdom on October 25th, 2023. In the United States, it was released simultaneously in theaters, as well as on the Peacock streaming service on on October 27th. The film stars Josh Hutcherson as Mike Schmidt, who is hired as a late night security guard at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Mike uses his own form of sleep therapy as a means of divining insight into the disappearance of his brother, who was kidnapped many years ago. The disappearance of his brother, as well as several other children, have a direct link to some of the bizarre occurrences taking place at Freddy Fazbear's, including the emergence of five murderous animatronic mascots known as Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy and Mister Cupcake.
