A fire poker, also known as a fire iron, is a metal shaft with a pointed end used for stoking flaming logs in a fireplace or pit. It can be used to tend a fire, move logs, and stir up ashes. Many fire irons also come equipped with a hook, which can also be used to help move burning materials.
In fiction[]
In addition to its usefulness as a tool, a fire poker can also make a useful weapon. In the 1989 horror film Puppet Master, the killer doll known as Pinhead used a fire poker to beat a housekeeper at the Bodega Bay Inn named Theresa to death. It took him several whacks to get the job done.
On the AMC television series The Walking Dead, the character of T-Dog used a fire poker when he and a group of survivors had to fight past some zombies in order to secure the West Georgia Correctional Facility. Another survivor, Carol Peletier, also used a fire iron to stab walkers from behind the gate. [1]
In season one of American Horror Story, the ghost of Tate Langdon dressed up in the Rubberman costume and attacked the homosexual couple, Chad Warwick and his lover, Patrick. After drowning Chad, he murdered Patrick by shoving a fire poker up his buttocks.
