Donald Allan Wollheim was an author and editor of science fiction. He was born in New York City, New York on October 1st, 1914. Wollheim wrote the short story "Mimic", which was later adapted into a feature film in 1997 directed by Guillermo Del Toro. Wollheim's story demonstrated the natural adaptation of insects and how they had evolved to live amongst mankind. The film version however, only borrowed key plot points from the story, but was altogether an entirely different story.
Donald Wollheim passed away in New York City on November 2nd, 1990 at the age of 76.
