Babysitter

Lynda van der Klok (Halloween 1978)

A babysitter is an individual, usually female, hired by a mother and/or father to watch over their children while they are away. Generally babysitters are either elderly women with little else to do, or teenage girls who are trying to make a little extra money. Teenage babysitters tend to shirk their responsibilities from time to time, preferring instead to take advantage of their employer's home, availing themselves of food, television and the use of their telephone. In the horror genre, babysitters are prime targets for serial murderers as exemplified in slasher franchises such as Halloween, where masked psycho-killer Michael Myers targeted several babysitters, including his own sister, in his home town of Haddonfield, Illinois.
