Overview[]
The Fairlake Sheriff's Department was a municipal law-enforcement agency based out of the town of Fairlake and serviced the jurisdiction of Greenbrier County. In the early 2000s, the sheriff of Fairlake was a woman named Angela Carter. She had two deputies, Mike and Biggs.
During the annual Mountain Man festival, Sheriff Carter arrested a local named Maynard Odets for attacking a group of youths on the highway, forcing their vehicle to crash. She also arrested the youths after discovering copious amounts of illegal narcotics in the vehicle. Carter had also arrested a local drunk named Mose, who would often spend the night in jail for drunken disorderly conduct. Billy Brolin confessed that the drugs were his, and asked Sheriff Carter to release his friends, which she reluctantly agreed to do.
Maynard Odets' "boys" were three deformed cannibal brothers, who labored to liberate their senior relation as well as slaughter as many locals as possible. While most of the department's deputies were maintaining the peace in town during the Mountain Man Festival, the three hillbilly brothers cut the power to the streets surrounding the station. One of the cannibals, Three Finger, had already killed Deputy Biggs by severing his ears and shooting him three times with a bow and arrow.
With several locals now missing, Sheriff Carter had no choice but to release Mose as well as Billy Brolin, who had been carrying the drugs. She temporarily deputized them and gave them shotguns. She also tried reaching out over a generator powered shortwave radio to enlist outside aid. The only person who responded however was a stoner named Teddy, who did not take Sheriff's Carters concerns very seriously.
While in jail, Maynard Odets tricked a young woman named Lita into setting him free. He then gouged out Lita's eyes, and captured Sheriff Carter soon after. He put her in his jail cell and secured her hands to the ceiling. He then forced her to stand on her tiptoes with a shotgun strapped to her chest. Maynard explained that the shotgun's trigger had a rope tied on it, which was also tied to her feet, and gave her the option to either slowly burn to death as he prepared to set the station on fire, or to step down and be shot in the head. Maynard and the cannibals then lit the station on fire and left, and, as she began to burn, she placed her feet down, preferring to be shot rather than burn to death. The Fairlake sheriff's station exploded in flames moments later. [1]
