Elm Street girls

Elm Street girls (as opposed to Hollaback girls) refers to three particularly creepy little girls featured in the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series. They are usually seen jumping rope (always in slow motion) and serve as a foreshadowing device to let both the viewers, and those who happen to walk by them, know that impending doom is on its way. Specifically, the Elm Street girls serve as a warning that if you see them, then Freddy Krueger cannot be far behind.

Almost nothing is known about the identities of these individuals. Universally, they always appear as three blonde-haired girls in white dresses who appear to be about seven-years-old. They play jump rope while singing a nursery rhyme set to the cadence of London Bridge, or My Fair Lady. The rhyme itself is as follows:

One, two, Freddy's coming for you.
Three, four, better lock your door.
Five six, grab your crucifix.
Seven eight, better stay up late.
Nine, ten, never sleep again.

It has been implied that these little girls may have been original murder victims of Freddy Krueger, back when he was still human and operating under the media-derived nickname, the Springwood Slasher. The ghosts of these girls appear before specific individuals who are fated to meet Freddy Krueger in their nightmares. Nancy Thompson was the first to take note of these when she saw them while walking to school in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street. The girls also appeared at the end of the film, signifying that Freddy is never truly gone for good.

In A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, a variation of the Elm Street girls is presented in the form of a single little girl on a bicycle played by Kristen Clayton. The character of Kristen Parker takes note of her and tries to save her from Freddy Krueger, only to see the girl turn into a skeleton in her arms.

In the 2003 film Freddy vs. Jason, the girls make a brief appearance in Lori Campbell's dream. They are played by Sarah-Anne Hepher, Kirsti Forbes and Taryn McCulloch. They are credited as "skipping girl" in the film.

In the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street by director Samuel Bayer, the three girls were played by actresses Katie Schooping Knight, Hailey Schooping Knight, and Leah Uteg. They were credited in the film as "creepy little girl" (which redirects to this page).
