Biography[]
When Jamison learned that Barnabas Collins was a vampire, he stayed up all night waiting for his father to return home so he could tell him. Edward naturally didn't believe him, but humored his son's assertions by going to the Old House and questioning Barnabas. He asked if he could see the basement, to which Barnabas politely acquiesced. Having been prepared for just such a visit however, Barnabas took measures to hide his coffin, keeping his secret intact. (Dark Shadows: 770)
