Doctor Giggles

Evan Rendell, Jr., aka, "Dr. Giggles"

Doctor refers to any individual who has graduated from a college or university with a doctorate. In most instances, these individuals specialize in the medical field, but some literary scholars may also possess doctorates and hold the title of doctor. Many scientists, also refer to themselves as doctors, though in the case of certain "mad scientists", this is likely used as an honorific as many of these individuals have been stripped of their license to practice medicine.

In stories that take place in the Old West, a common nickname for a Doctor was "Doc". This was also the nickname of young Danny Torrance from the 1980 horror film The Shining as well as the 1997 television adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining.

Doctor James Hayes from the 1970 film Count Yorga, Vampire, was a physician who treated a young woman named Erica Landers, who complained of listless behavior and possessed two small puncture wounds in her throat. Hayes quickly deduced that she was the victim of a vampire.

In the 1984 film A Nightmare on Elm Street, teenager Nancy Thompson went to the Katja Institute where a dream specialist named Doctor Samuel King treated her for nightmares regarding a hideously burned murderer named Freddy Krueger. Another Doctor from this film series is Doctor Campbell, who was a consultant for the Westin Hills Psychiatric Hospital and the father of Lori Campbell. It was Doctor Campbell who prescribed Hypnocil to patients in the hopes of suppressing their dreams to protect them from Freddy Krueger.

In the Re-Animator film series, a medical student named Herbert West eventually received his doctorate and used it as a means to procure space and resources for his private projects, which included unethical experiments in cell regeneration. One of his original teachers, as well as test subjects was Doctor Hans Gruber of the University of Zurich. [1]

One of the more obscure doctors of note is Doctor Evan Rendell, Jr., a psychotic murderer who earned himself the unflattering nickname "Doctor Giggles" due to his persistant habit of giggling. Played by actor Larry Drake, he was the central antagonist of the 1992 film Dr. Giggles.

Despite his name, Doctor Satan from House of 1000 Corpses and The Haunted World of El Superbeasto is not a real doctor.
