Dingoes Ate My Baby is a fictional alternative rock band featured in the popular television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The name of the band is taken from an infamous 1980 animal attack case in which a nine-week old infant, Azaria Chamberlain, was reputedly attacked and possibly eaten by a pack of dingoes in Australia. Her mother, Lindy Chamberlain made the exclamation, "Dingoes ate my baby!", which has since become a pop culture reference in various media.

History[]

The band first appeared in the season two episode of Buffy entitled "Inca Mummy Girl". The lead singer of the band was Devon MacLeish with Daniel "Oz" Osbourne on lead guitar. The drummer and bass player have never been identified by name. Dingoes Ate My Baby frequently played sets at a trendy night club in Sunnydale, California called the Bronze. Although several local bands held their venues at the Bronze, the Dingoes played there more than any other group.

Although the Dingoes' fan base consisted primarily of college and high school students, there was at least one instance where their fans were of a decidedly older demographic. In 1999, many of the adults in Sunnydale had been tainted from eating cursed candy bars. These candy bars had a psychological effect on them, making them behave as if they were wild, unruly teenagers. This included several staff members from Sunnydale High School. Four elderly Sunnydale residents interrupted the Dingoes' set to perform their own inebriated rendition of Richard Berry's "Louie Louie". [1]

Daniel Osbourne left the band in 2000 and it is unknown if he was replaced or if the Dingoes even remained together. In 2003, the entire town of Sunnydale was destroyed, including the Bronze, so even if the band remained together, they were certainly no longer billing gigs in Sunnydale.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • The songs performed by the Dingoes were actually performed by a group called Four Star Mary. Their 2001 single "Pain" is present on the original soundtrack CD for the show and is also briefly featured in an episode of the television series Charmed.
