Debra Hill is an American screenwriter and producer, usually associated with the Halloween film franchise. She co-wrote the screenplay for the first Halloween film in 1978 and developed a close bond with film director John Carpenter (whom she had worked with previously on the 1975 film Assault on Precinct 13). Following the success of Halloween, Hill and Carpenter joined forces again for the movie's 1981 sequel, Halloween II as well as the 1982 non-sequel, Halloween III: Season of the Witch. In 1986, Hill formed an independent production company with her friend Lynda Obst. She also produced The Dead Zone (1983), Head Office (1985), and Clue (1985). Debra Hill was diagnosed with cancer in 2004. Despite this, she continued to work on various projects including a comic adaptation of the Snake Plissken character from the 1981 Carpenter film Escape from New York. Debra Hill succumbed to cancer on March 7th, 2005.
