Deathwatch is a fictional super-villain featured comic book issues published by Marvel Comics. He first appeared as an adversary to the third Ghost Rider and was introduced in Ghost Rider, Volume 3 #1. Though primarily a Ghost Rider villain, Deathwatch has also appeared in more mainstream Marvel Comics titles and was one of many such villains who participated in the 2009-2010 "Dark Reign" saga.

Biography[]

Little is known of Deathwatch's history, including his real identity. Some years ago, Deathwatch began establishing a criminal empire for himself in New York City. Assuming the guise of Stephen Lords, Deathwatch headquartered himself in a Manhattan office suite, but his influence extended to all the five boroughs.

One of Deathwatch's rivals in New York was the self-styled Kingpin of crime, Wilson Fisk. Deathwatch learned of the existence of three metal canisters in Fisk's possession; the contents of which were vital to the continued prosperity of Fisk's enterprises. Deathwatch sent his ninja assassins the Deathswarm to procure the briefcase containing the canisters from Fisk's courier. When Fisk learned of this, he sent his hired guns to track the thieves down and recover his property. Deathwatch led the Deathswarm against Fisk's agents at Cypress Hills Cemetery. Witnessing the firefight were the siblings Dan and Barbara Ketch. When Deathwatch took note of them, he ordered his men to kill them. Afterward, he quickly left the scene and returned to his office suite. Deathwatch later learned that a demonic Spirit of Vengeance known as the Ghost Rider had appeared in the cemetery and caused his ninja to lose track of the briefcase. When the agents reported their failure to him, Deathwatch used his postcognitive abilities to learn what he could about the Ghost Rider. [1] It would only be a matter of time before Deathwatch and the Ghost Rider would face one another in mortal combat.

Abilities[]

  • Postcognition: Through physical contact, Deathwatch could perceive events that took place in the recent past. The impressions he received were always related to whatever, or whoever, he made contact with.
