Cybernetic enhancement, also known as cybernetic conversion, is the process of introducing artificial mechanical components to organic material for purposes of function. This can be done as a means of repairing or replacing damaged tissue, or in the pursuit of enhancing the overall capabilities of a subject. There are several processes that can be utilized in the creation of a cybernetic organism. The most common practice is attaching robotic components to existing tissue, such as a mechanical arm in place of a missing arm, etc. Nanite technology can also be used in the process of cybernetic conversion. Nanotechnology is the process of using a multitude of microscopic machines working in a network with one another to produce any number of desired affects. This could be something as simple as placing an micro-implant into a living organism, or introducing millions of nanites into a system to rewrite an individual's genetic code.
