Notes & Trivia[]
- The Creepshow franchise was created by filmmaker George A. Romero and novelist Stephen King. Inspired by classic horror comic strips published by the likes of EC Comics, it was brought to the big screen as an anthology film in 1982. It produced two sequels, Creepshow 2 in 1987 and Creepshow 3 in 2006. Creepshow: The Series was developed by Greg Nicotero and produced by Cartel Pictures, Striker Entertainment, Monster Agency Productions and the Taurus Entertainment Company. It began streaming on Shudder on September 26th, 2019.
- The timeline of this episode appears to take place in the 1960s. Doc and the Chief make reference to events from the 1950s as if they were not that long ago. Also, Richie's truck appears to be from the '60 era. A reference to the Grady daughters may place the timeline even later, as they would have died sometime around the winter of 1970-71.
- Actress Adrienne Barbeau also appeared in "The Crate" story from the 1983 film Creepshow. The crate prop from that vignette can be seen during the opening credit sequence.
Allusions[]
- This episode adapts the short story "Gray Matter", which was written by Stephen King and first published in Cavalier magazine in October, 1973. It was collected in the Night Shift collection.
- A radio news broadcast makes reference to the Grady Twins. These are the unnamed daughters of Delbert Grady, who appear as ghosts in the 1977 novel The Shining by Stephen King.
- One of the missing pet posters seen at Dixie's diner references Cujo. Cujo is the name of a rabid Saint Bernard who is the titular antagonist of the 1981 novel Cujo and the 1983 Cujo feature film.
- One of the missing pet posters seen at Dixie's diner reference Church, who is a grey cat owned by Ellie Creed in the 1983 novel Pet Sematary by Stephen King.
