Charles Barton was an American film director best known for helming war films and action-comedies. He is notable for directing the 1948 comedy classic Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, which paired burlesque comedians Bud Abbott and Lou Costello and set them at odds against the classic Universal Monsters; Dracula, the Wolf Man and the Frankenstein Monster. Unfortunately, Barton's film also proved to be the swan song appearance of these classic horror icons. Barton followed up this match-up motif in the 1949 film Abbott and Costello Meet the Killer, Boris Karloff, the only film in which actor Boris Karloff's name is actually part of the film title.
