2024 is the twenty-fourth year in the 21st century. It follows 2023 and precedes 2025. It began on a Monday. Anticipation and reservation for certain film sequels began in early November, 2023. Gore hounds found their salacious appetites whetted when a teaser trailer for Terrifier 3 dropped on YouTube, indicating that this third installment of the blood-soaked franchise will be a Christmas movie. Conversely, 2024 began with grim tidings for the Scream film franchise. In November, 2023, series production company Spyglass Entertainment fired series star Melissa Barrera over perceived pro-Palestinian statements she had made over social media platforms. Immediately upon the announcement of Barrera's release, her Scream co-star Jenna Ortega dropped out of a potential Scream VII project, reportedly because scheduling would conflict with her work on season two of the Wednesday series on Netflix. On Christmas day, director Christopher Landon announced that he was leaving the project as well, casting the future progress of Scream VII for 2024 in to doubt.

The surprise hit of the Halloween season however was Damien Leone's Terrifier 3. Terrifier 3 came in at number at the U.S. box office on the October 11th weekend with $8,199,276 in earnings on its first day. It beat out The Wild Robot, which was entering its third week and Joker: Folie à Deux, which just began entering its second week. "The little movie that could" finished up its domestic run with $53,981,071 in ticket sales and another $32,912,900 internationally for a combined worldwide total of $86,893,971. Now while Art the Clown shocked both the nation and the box office, the biggest returns were actually captured mid-year with A Quiet Place: Day One, which netted $138,930,553 domestically and $261,786,322 worldwide with a domestic opening of $52,202,495.

Toppling those numbers however, was another sci-fi alien monster feature, which lied dormant within our collective chests until ready to come bursting forth in the form of Fede Alvarez's Alien: Romulus. While Alien did not see as strong a domestic box office as A Quiet Place, it takes the lead overall, with a worldwide gross of $350,861,031. Closing out the year, Robert Eggers brought us his interpretation of the F.W. Murnau silent film classic Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens with a film simply titled Nosferatu. The movie rang true with both critics and viewers with lead actress Lily-Rose Depp standing poised and ready to become 2025's "It girl".
