Cat People is an American feature film of the supernatural thriller genre, with an emphasis on shape-shifters; specifically, humans who can embody the physical characteristics of a panther. It is a remake of the 1942 film Cat People, directed by Jacques Tourneur. The film was directed by Paul Schrader with a script written by Alan Ormsby. It was produced by RKO Pictures and Universal Pictures and premiered in the United States on April 2nd, 1982.

The film stars Nastassia Kinski as the female lead, Irena Gallier, with Malcolm McDowell as the male lead, Paul Gallier. Supporting cast members in the film include John Heard as Oliver Yates, Annette O'Toole as Alice Perrin, Ruby Dee as a housekeeper whose name is actually Female, Ed Begley, Jr. as Joe Creigh, Scott Paulin as Bill Searle, and Frankie Faison as Detective Brandt.
