There are two types of vampires: The First Born, which are those that are born a vampire, and the Sips, which are those who were turned into a vampire. The First Born represent the hierarchy, while the Sips are considered the lower class. Atticus Sloane is a First Born with a bedeviled history of indiscriminately turning people into vampires. Now, he is a Vampire for Hire, who will turn anyone who desires it it into a vampire... for a price.
Atticus' past catches up to him however when First Born councilor Bram Stoker and his henchman Mister Tooth discover that Atticus has been feeding off his own children. They capture Atticus and threaten to expose him to the rays of the rising son unless he embarks upon a very specific mission for them. Using a tool supplied by Mister Tooth, he is to seek out all of the Sips that he has created over the years and destroy them.
