"Blood Island" is the collective name for a series of low-budget Filipino horror films produced by Lynn-Romero Productions and/or Hemisphere Pictures during the 1950s, 60s and 70s. The first film in the series Terror Is a Man, which was directed by Gerardo de Leon and written by Paul Harber. It was released in November, 1959. The series did not become a linked franchise until 1968 with the release of The Mad Doctor of Blood Island, which was co-directed by de Leon as well as producer Eddie Romero. It was written by Reuben Canoy. This was followed up that same year by Brides of Blood, which was also helmed by the team of de Leon and Romero. The fourth film, Beast of the Yellow Night, was written, directed and produced by Eddie Romero and was released in 1971. The final movie in the series is Brain of Blood, which was directed by Al Adamson and written and produced by Kane W. Lynn and Samuel M. Sherman. Actor John Ashley was a recurring star in most of these films, usually playing a doctor. He appeared in Mad Doctor on Blood Island, Brides of Blood and Beast of the Yellow Night.
Related films in the series include The Woman Hunt in 1972, The Twilight People, also in 1972, Beyond Atlantis in 1973 and Savage Sisters in 1974. These films bear no connection to the rest of the Blood Island series other than the repeat use of directors, writers, producers and cast members.
