Blink Twice is an American independent feature of the psychological thriller subgenre of horror with an emphasis on the rape revenge film trope. It was written and directed by Zoë Kravitz with a screenplay that was co-written by E.T. Feigenbaum. It was presented through Amazon MGM Studios & Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and produced by Bruce Cohen Productions, Free Association and Redrum. It premiered at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles, California on August 8th, 2024. It opened internationally in Belgium, France and the Philippines on August 21st, 2024. It opened to wide release in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom on August 23rd, 2024. The film stars Naomi Ackie as Frida - a cocktail waitress who is invited to a private island by billionaire tech mogul Slater King, played by Channing Tatum. The film also features Haley Joel Osment as Tom, Geena Davis as Stacy, Christian Slater as Vic, and Kyle MacLachlan as Rich.

Plot[]

Frida is a cocktail server who supplements her income with custom designed animal themed nail art. Along with her friend, Jess, she works a function for billionaire tech mogul Slater King, who had only recently stepped down as CEO of his multinational empire following an undisclosed scandal. Frida and Jess meet Slater who invites them to spend a vacation at his private island getaway. They agree to go and receive red gift bags that contain bottles of perfume. Upon arrival at the island, they meet Slater's other male guests including business partner Vic, a private chef named Cody, a friend named Tom, Lucas, who is an employee of King Tech, Slater's personal assistant Stacy, and his therapist, Rich. Among the other female guests invited to the island, there is Survivor-esque reality star Sarah, app developer Camilla, and Heather, who is a lawyer and full-time stoner.

The island getaway is practically perfect in every way and the gang enjoys non-stop hedonism consisting of drinking, vaping, smoking marijuana and lounging by the pool. In fact... things seem a little too perfect, as Frida points out. Frida has a chance encounter with a chambermaid who is one of the islanders, who repeatedly refers to her as "Red Rabbit", which confuses Frida.

Fun in the sun begins to falter when Jess is bitten by a poisonous snake. The others downplay the event, and Slater states that she will be fine, but also notes that there are no hospitals on the island to take her to. Jess begins to see through the veneer of island perfection and grows nervous. She wants to leave. The following day, the chambermaid convinces Frida to consume snake venom, which has hallucinagenic effects, but also frees up past memories. While lounging at the pool, she notes that Jess is nowhere to be found, but when she inquires with the other women, nobody seems to recall who she is.

Frida and Sarah begin to suspect that something is amiss as Sarah finds a lighter with Jess' name on it, but has memory of who she is. They find the red gift bags that had been handed out to the women, which includes perfume cultivated from a flower that is native to the island. They discover that the perfume robs people of their memory, but the venom from the snake reverses the effect. Frida and Sarah begin to recollect their missing memories. All of the women had previously been raped by the men on the island. Frida now realizes that her friend Jess has been murdered.

Frida and Sarah dose the other women with the snake venom in order to kick-start their memories of the assault. Stacy has an unexpected reaction, noting that she did not want to remember. Now realizing what has been transpiring, the women now rebel against their male aggressors. Through the course of this, Frida comes to discover that she has been to this island in the past. The last time she was Slater's unwilling victim was when she had red rabbit artwork painted onto her finger nails, which is why the chambermaid kept calling her "Red Rabbit".

Frida doses Slater King's vape with the perfume, which causes him to go into a coughing fit. It also completely robs him of his memories. He looks about the room and sees his friends bloodied and/or dead. He has no idea what is going on or why. Slater slips on the floor and knocks himself unconsious. The fall knocks over a string of candles, which causes the villa to catch fire. Frida and Sarah flee, but they do not leave Slater to die.

Time passes and Frida is seen at a gala event with Slater King. She is now addressed as Frida King and is Slater's wife. She is the CEO of King Tech and the heiress to Slater's fortune. Slater is somewhat disoriented and is seemingly ignorant of everything going around him. Frida has used the distilled flower petal perfume to avenge herself against Slater by stealing his empire.
