Notes & Trivia[]

  • In 1987, Richard Rothstein wrote and directed a television movie for NBC called Bates Motel. The telemovie was intended as a pilot episode for a potential spin-off anthology series, but was never picked up. The film's story contradicts elements of what is considered film canon, most notably by the revelation that Norman Bates died while in a sanitarium. Other than being part of the same licensed property, the television movie has no other connection to either the film series or the Bates Motel series.
