Barbara Read is a fictional divorcee and a central character featured in the FX Network & Hulu seasonal anthology series American Horror Story. The character is associated with the season eleven storyline, "NYC". She was played by actress Sandra Bernhard and introduced in the season premiere, "Something's Coming". She made four appearances in the series in total.
Biography[]
Barbara Read was a resident of New York City, New York during the late 1970s and early 1980s. She was the wife of New York City Police Department detective Patrick Read. When Patrick came to discover his sexual identity as gay, he told Barbara that he wanted a divorce. Barbara was reluctant, but ultimately agreed when it became clear that Patrick's sexual interest lied elsewhere. Barbara was shocked when she discovered a box of S&M bondage attire in Patrick's closet and confided in his male lover, Gino Barelli, about what she had found. [1] A mysterious individual known as "Big Daddy" broke into Barbara's apartment and strangled her to death. [2]
