The Banded Cenobite, or "Bound Cenobite", is a fictional demonic entity and a minor antagonist featured in the Hellraiser film series. Played by actor Snowy Highfield, he appeared in the 2005 sequel film Hellraiser: Hellworld.

Biography[]

Known only as the Banded Cenobite, or Bound Cenobite, this individual was once a human who, through undetermined means, sought the ultimate in human sensation, which led him to a Lemarchand puzzle box. Solving the riddle of the box opened a doorway to Hell, at which point, this individual was transmogrified into a Cenobite and became a member of the Order of the Gash under the leadership of a dark priest who has colloquially become known as "Pinhead". ^[1] Along with another being referred to as the Melted Face Cenobite, the Banded Cenobite took an interest in events occurring at Leviathan House in 2005 at the 5th Annual Secret Hellworld Party.

One of the party guests, Mike, while under the influence of a powerful hallucinogen, fell victim to the terror of the Banded Cenobite. The Cenobite used a winch system that activated a large hook suspended from a chain from the ceiling. The winch caused the hook-chain to slide down a rail track, impaling Mike in the back. As Mike struggled to free himself, he only caused himself more pain. The Banded Cenobite retracted the rail mechanism and the sharp trauma of the hook caused Mike to seemingly die. Although this was all a hallucination in Mike's head, the trauma was so real that it literally frightened him to death in the real world.

The Banded Cenobite, along with the Lead Cenobite and Melted Face Cenobite appeared in a room at the Clark Hotel, which had been utilized by the host of the party. The middle-aged man found a Lemarchand puzzle box in the room and solved the puzzle, though it would seem he was destined to open it no matter what efforts he applied. At the Lead Cenobite's urging, bot the Banded Cenobite and Melted Face Cenobite wielded large blades on chains that they swung, dismembering the host, and cutting his body in half. ^[2]

The character of Banded Cenobite was created by director Rick Bota and writer Joel Soisson based on concepts originally developed by Clive Barker.
Actor Snowy Highfield received sixteenth billing in Hellraiser: Hellworld. The cast were credited by order of appearance.
Actor Snowy Highfield also played the Spike Cenobite in a deleted scene from Hellraiser: Deader, released the same year as Hellraiser: Hellworld.
