Axe Giant: The Wrath of Paul Bunyan is an American independent low-budget feature film of the creature feature subgenre of horror. It was directed by Gary Jones with a script written by Jones, Jeff Miller and Jason Ancona, who are also producers on the movie. It was produced by Kinetic Filmworks and P13 Entertainment. It was released direct-to-video on June 18th, 2013. The film features an ensemble cast that consists of two adult caretakers, Tom Downey as Sergeant Abner Hoke and Kristina Kopf as Ms. K, as well as five troubled youths which includes Amber Connor as Claire Tanner, Jesse Kove as Zachary Moore, Clifton Williams as Marty Williams, Jill Evyn as Trish Gage, and Victoria Ramos as Rosa Villa. Rounding out the cast is Tim Lovelace as Sheriff Ray Tanner, Joe Estevez as mountain loony Meeks and Dan Haggerty as lumberjack foreman Bill in a flashback sequence.

  • Production on Axe Giant: The Wrath of Paul Bunyan began in August, 2010 with filming concluding in November, 2010. The movie was shot in Southern California with some exterior shots being filmed in and around Mohican State Park in Crestline, Ohio.
  • Midnight Syndicate is a musical duo comprised of Edward Douglas and Gavin Goszka. Goszka is not credited in this film.
  • Actor Dan Haggerty is best known for playing James "Grizzly" Adams on the 1977-1978 television series The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams.
  • Actor Joe Estevez is the brother of actor Martin Sheen and the uncle of actors Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez.
  • In the end credits, the monster is identified as Gunnar Wolfgang Bunyan, though he is never called this in the movie itself. He is only ever called Paul Bunyan.

Explicit Content[]

  • Profanity: Strong language is used infrequently in this film. Mostly by the characters of Zach and Marty. Minimal usage of the word "fuck" and one "motherfucker".
  • Female topless nudity: Actress Jill Evyn is shown in scant attire for most of her appearance in this film. During a sex scene, she is shown topless and has nipple and naval piercings.
  • Female rear nudity: Amber Connor shows the barest glimpse of minor butt crack, but is otherwise completely clothed in the film.
  • Gore: Copious gore used throughout the film. All of the gore is rendered through computer generated imagery.
  • Cut in half: Trish is split in half down the middle by Paul's axe. Hoke is cut in half at the waste by Paul's axe, and then stepped on.
  • Decapitation: Elmer is decapitated in the 1894 flashback. Meeks is decapitated in the modern era. Other loggers also decapitated in the 1894 flashback.
  • Gunshot victims: Martin is shot in the chest at point blank range while trying to wrestle a shotgun away from Meeks.
  • Dismemberment: Numerous loggers are dismembered in the 1894 flashback.
  • Eye injury: Ms. K shoots Paul Bunyan in the eye with Hoke's revolver.
