Arachnology is the scientific study of spiders and related animals such as scorpions, pseudoscorpions, harvestmen, collectively called arachnids. However, the study of ticks and mites is sometimes not included in arachnology, but is called acarology. Those who study spiders and other arachnids are arachnologists.

Examples[]

  • Eight Legged Freaks: A middle-aged man named Joshua Taft was an arachnologist and owned Taft's Exotic Spider Farm in Prosperity, Arizona. He prided himself on his collection of rare breeds and was not above bribing customs officials to have contraband spiders imported from other countries. He preferred addressing spiders by their taxonomical classifications rather than by their common names. His favorite was the Orb-weaver spider.
