Amy Louise Acker is an American film and television actress born in Dallas, Texas on December 5th, 1976. Her first professional acting work was playing multiple characters on three episodes of the children's educational television series Wishbone. Her first major film role was in 2001 when she played a character named Kate in William Shatner's sci-fi movie Groom Lake.

From 2001 to 2004, Amy played two characters on the WB Network television series Angel. Her primary role was that of nerdy scientist Winifred "Fred" Burkle, who was introduced in the nineteenth episode of season two, "Belonging". With season three, Acker became a regular cast member on the series, appearing in every episode up until midway through season five when her character became possessed by a powerful ancient deity named Illyria. Acker played the Illyria-possessed-Burkle character for the remaining seven episodes of the series.

Her first role following the cancellation of Angel was playing worried mother Andrea Barr in the "Dead in the Water" episode of Supernatural.

Amy Acker later went on to star in the Joss Whedon sci-fi series Dollhouse starring Eliza Dushku where she played a character named Doctor Claire Saunders. She appeared in fourteen out of twenty-seven episodes of the series.

In 2012, Amy appeared in the horror film The Cabin in the Woods written and directed by Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon. She played a character named Wendy Lin.

  • Amy Acker was nominated for a Saturn Award three times for the category of Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series for her work on Angel. She was nominated in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Of the three, she won the 2004 award.
  • She was also nominated for a Satellite Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role for Angel in 2004.
  • Amy Acker also played a recurring character named Doctor Claire Saunders on the Fox Network sci-fi series Dollhouse, which was also created by Angel developer Joss Whedon.
