Amityville II: The Possession is an American-Mexican co-production feature film of the haunted house subgenre of horror. It is a non-canonical prequel to the 1979 film The Amityville Horror. It was directed by Damiano Damiani with a screenplay written by Tommy Lee Wallace based on the book Murder in Amityville by Hans Holzer. It was produced by the De Laurentiis Entertainment Group and Orion Pictures and released theatrically in the United States on September 24th, 1982. The film presents a fictionalized account of the actual 1974 murders committed by Ronald Defeo at 112 Ocean Avenue, though the family's surname in the movie has been changed to Montelli.
