Notes & Trivia[]

  • American Horror Story was created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. It is a seasonal anthology series that takes place within a shared continuity. Though each season is a self-contained storyline, the show recycles many of the same actors in different roles from season to season.
  • This episode is production code number 7ATS10.

Allusions[]

  • A portion of this title is taken from the TV comedy series Charles in Charge starring Scott Baio. The series originally aired on NBC and ran for five seasons from 1984 to 1990. It should also be noted that lead actor Scott Baio is well known for his conservative Republican views and endorsed Donald Trump in the 2016 election - an event that formed the basis for this season of American Horror Story.
  • The other aspect of this episode's title is a reference to Charles Manson. Manson was a cult leader who orchestrated several widely publicized murders in August, 1969. Manson died on November 17th, 2017 at the age of 83, just ten days after this episode first aired.
  • The characterizations of Charles Manson, Susan Atkins, Linda Kasabian, Tex Watson, Patricia Krenwinkel, Sharon Tate, Steve Parent, Jay Sebring, Wojciech Frykowski, and Abigail Folger are all based on actual people. On the evening of August 8th-9th, 1969, Cult leader Charles Manson sent Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, Tex Watson and Linda Kasbian to 10050 Cielo Drive in Los Angeles, where they murdered actress Sharon Tate and her house guests, Sebring, Frykowski and Folger, as well as 18-year-old Steven Parent, who had been visiting the property's caretaker. Kasabian was the driver of the Manson family's vehicle and did not actively participate in the murders herself.

Quotes[]

  • Charles Manson: Look, as long as there's hate in your heart, there'll be hate in the world.
