American Horror Story: Hotel is the fifth season of the FX Network horror anthology series American Horror Story. The season premiered on October 7th, 2015.

This is the first season of American Horror Story where actress Jessica Lange was not part of the main cast line-up.
- This is also the only season not to feature series mainstay Frances Conroy.

Grammy-award winning pop star Lady Gaga was the first celebrity cast to appear on season five of American Horror Story. No other details relating to the show were released at that time, but Gaga revealed in a tweet that the show would sport the serial name, "Hotel". ^[1]

Actress Christine Estabrook, who played snotty real estate agent Marcy in season one, returns to the franchise for season five, continuing the trend of establishing connective tissue between the various seasons. Sarah Paulson also reprised her role of Billie Dean Howard from season one in a dual role during the finale episode, "Be Our Guest".

Ned Martel becomes a co-producer on American Horror Story beginning with this season. Martel had previously worked as a consulting producer on the documentary spin-off project, American Horror Story FreakShow: Extra-Ordinary Artists, which spotlighted actors from season four, notably, Rose Siggins, Mat Fraser, Erika Ervin, Jyoti Amge and the late Ben Woolf.

Lady Gaga won the award for the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television at the 2016 Golden Globes Awards ceremony for her work on American Horror Story: Hotel. ^[2]

Actress Gabourey Sidibe reprised her role of Queenie from season three, "Coven" in episode 5x11, "Battle Royale", thus establishing a continuity connection between this season and "Coven".
